Essential Anesthesia: From Science to Practice - T. Y. Euliano, J. S. Gravenstein

Description:

This concise, accessible introduction to the essentials of anesthesia is suitable for medical students and junior doctors as well as operating room staff. After describing the evaluation of the patient, the different approaches to anesthesia, and the postoperative care of the patient in pain, it introduces the essentials of physiology and pharmacology, and, finally, presents a step-by-step description of clinical cases, ranging from the simplest to the most complex. Anesthesia, or anaesthesia (see spelling differences; from Greek αν-, an-, "without"; and αἲσθησις, aisthēsis, "sensation"), has traditionally meant the condition of having sensation (including the feeling of pain) blocked or temporarily taken away. This allows patients to undergo surgery and other procedures without the distress and pain they would otherwise experience. Anesthesia differs from analgesia in blocking all sensation, not only pain.
